I was born in Umtali, Rhodesia in 1957, but spent most of my childhood years, growing up with my sister, Jenny, in the beautiful Melsetter district
where my dad, Dave Gibson, was a forester and my mum, Wendy,
was a much loved and active member of the community.
Sadly, Dad passed away on 2 January 2000, but I am sure he is looking down on those cool shady pine forests and wide open spaces with the same nostalgia and gratitude for the wonderful lifestyle we all enjoyed in Melsetter.

I was inspired to create this Web Page after receiving a lovely email
(see The Sleeping Giant) from Jan van der Walt reminiscing about his days in Melsetter.

There are other memories documented here ....... anyone who has similar, fond memories, is asked and encouraged to contribute their memoirs, photos and other tidbits.
Also if you are in contact with other 'Melsetterites' please let us know who and their whereabouts and also share this site with them.
